WIPA NTDC Supplemental Training: Understanding Medicaid Web Course

Format: Web Course

Date(s): March 30 - April 24, 2020

Description:

This four-week web course provides practical information on Medicaid including an overview of the basics of Medicaid and Medicaid eligibility and detailed information about Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers.  The course will include discussion board activities that will help you understand the principles you have learned through discussion with other participants, and there will be assessments involving questions based on the material presented in each lesson.

 

During this training, you will learn:  

 

  • The basic structure of Medicaid;
  • Possible variations in program rules between states;
  • The basics of the common Medicaid eligibility groups for people with disabilities;
  • CWIC’s role with issues and questions regarding Medicaid;
  • CWIC’s role with advising on the impact of work on Medicaid eligibility; and
  • The basics of Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers.


Course Requirements:

 

Each of the subject lessons contain one or more video presentations (or alternate format) and supplemental reading material. The course is largely self-directed and self-paced and we will grade it on a pass/fail basis. Each lesson has a short assessment. You must complete all course requirements by the last day of the course.

 

The course requirements include:

 

  • Achieving a score of 80% or higher on each of the lesson assessments (with 2 attempts provided); and
  • Posting one question or comment to the discussion board by the last day of the course. 

 

Continuing Certification Credits (CCCs): If you are participating in the continuing certification process, we will record nine (9) CCCs in your myNTC account once the course ends and you have successfully completed the course requirements.

 

Extensions: We will only grant extensions for one week after the ending date of the course for participants who contact an instructor before the end date of the course.

Who should register for this training event?

 

This training is open to all individuals who have completed Part I of the CWIC/Community Partner certification process or who are already certified.  WIPA Project Directors may participate regardless of certification status.

Provisionally or fully certified POD Counselors are also welcome to participate.


How do I register? 

You must have a myNTC user account to register.  If you do not yet have one, please create a myNTC account on our website (https://vcu-ntdc.org/myntc/index.cfm).

Once you receive your myNTC login information via the email address you provided, log back into your myNTC account, and click on the Training Registrations section.  Then choose the Supplemental Training tab, and register for the Understanding Medicaid
 web course.
