WIPA NTDC Supplemental Training: Work Incentives Counseling Strategies to Meet the Unique Needs of Beneficiaries with Psychiatric Disabilities Webinar
Date(s): November 12, 2020
CWICs must be aware of the unique aspects of providing work incentives counseling services to beneficiaries with psychiatric disabilities. People with mental illnesses often experience prejudice and discrimination due to the nature of the disability and have legitimate concerns about managing work, psychiatric symptoms, and disclosing a mental health disability when pursuing employment. This training focuses on how effective work incentives counseling correlates with evidence-based employment practices for people with psychiatric disabilities. It will also focus on the fundamentals of recovery as it relates to work incentives counseling along the employment continuum. This training will enable CWICs to understand strategies to support beneficiaries through various scenarios and examples.
Upon completion of this training, participants will:
- Understand the role of work and employment in the recovery process;
- Understand the parallels with evidence-based services for people with psychiatric disabilities and effective work incentives planning approaches;
- Explore and identify the stages of the employment continuum and the parallels to the recovery process;
- Understand how communication and counseling skills can impact the beneficiary’s perception of their potential and self-efficacy in employment; and
- Understand how to maintain effectiveness in your role in supporting people with disabilities (supporting yourself while supporting others).
You are required to complete a ten-question, multiple-choice, competency-based assessment successfully within one week after the training to receive completion credit. The assessment will be located in your myNTC account. You will receive additional instructions in your confirmation email on how to take the assessment.
Continuing Certification Credits (CCCs):
