WIPA NTDC Supplemental Training: Providing Effective Work Incentives Supports on Other Federal Benefits (November/December 2020)

This course will provide Community Work Incentives Coordinators (CWIC) and Community Partners with enhanced information, strategies, and tools related to the following key federal benefits programs:
- Housing Programs
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
- Veterans Benefits
- Unemployment Insurance
- Worker’s Compensation and other Public Disability Benefits
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
This web course builds on information provided on these federal programs in the WIPA Training Manual, and expands on several other federal benefits. The primary objective is to equip CWICs and Community Partners with practical information and skills to effectively counsel and support beneficiaries on the array of benefits received and their dynamic interface, with an emphasis on the federal benefit programs that CWICs and Community Partners are most likely to encounter. For each of the benefit programs, web course lessons will include the following: a brief review of program eligibility and rules; the impact of work on these benefits; detailed descriptions of work incentive provisions; tips for verification; and providing individualized benefits counseling.
Each of the lessons contain one or more video presentations (or alternate format) and supplemental reading material. The course is largely self-directed and self-paced and we will grade it on a pass/fail basis. Each lesson has a short assessment. You must complete all of the following course requirements by the last day of the course:
- Achieving a score of 80% or higher on each of the lesson assessments (with two attempts provided); and
- Posting one question or comment to the discussion board.
Continuing Certification Credits (CCCs)
If you are participating in the CCC process, we will record nine (9) CCCs in your myNTC account once the course ends and you have successfully completed the course requirements. If you would like CRCs for this course, please contact Julie Schall at email@example.com once you receive the course completion email.
We will only grant extensions for one week after the ending date of the course for participants who contact an instructor before the end date of the course.
Who should register for this training event?
This training is open to all fully or provisionally certified individuals who have completed Part I of the CWIC/CPWIC certification process. For WIPA CWICs who have completed Part I of the CWIC certification process, successful completion of this web course is required to complete Part II of the certification process.
WIPA Program Directors may participate regardless of certification status. Fully or provisionally certified POD counselors are also welcome to participate.
How do I register?
You must have a myNTC user account to register. If you do not yet have one, please create a myNTC account (https://vcu-ntdc.org/myntc/index.cfm) on our website.
Once you receive your myNTC login information via the email address you provided, log back into your myNTC account, and select the Training Registrations section. Then select the Supplemental Training tab to access the registration link for the Providing Effective Work Incentives Supports on Other Federal Benefits web course.
