Supplemental WIPA Training Programs

WIPA NTDC Supplemental Training: Providing WIPA Services to Individuals who are Blind Teleconference

Format: Teleconference

Date(s): July 8, 2020

Description:

Social Security distinguishes between individuals who are statutorily blind and those with other disabilities when they make disability determinations because certain program rules differ for the two groups.  This supplemental training session will describe Social Security’s definition of statutory blindness and the differences in both eligibility requirements and work incentives for Title II disability beneficiaries and SSI recipients who receive benefits based on blindness.  The training will also cover the CWIC’s role in providing WIPA services to individuals who are blind and offers tips for providing effective accommodation.

Upon completion of this training, participants will:

  • Describe the process for verifying statutory blindness;
  • Describe the differences in eligibility criteria for individuals who are blind in the SSI program and Title II disability programs;
  • Describe the differences in work rules for Individuals who are blind in the SSI program and the Title II disability programs;
  • Identify sources of employment services for individuals who are blind or visually impaired; and
  • Describe strategies for accommodating and supporting individuals who are blind when providing WIPA services.
